Theatre Royal Sydney

Where the city meets the stage

The theatre experience starts the moment you step inside the 13-metre-high, floor-to-ceiling glass entrance. Bold red, hand-tufted carpet, sumptuous marble and mirror finished brass accents work in unison to give this grand lobby a melodramatic stage presence.

Calling 25 Martin Place home, Theatre Royal is Sydney’s oldest theatre, and has been a preeminent international venue since its foundation in 1875, making it a firm favourite in the city’s arts scene. Staying true to the legacy of royal theatres around the world, the recent luxurious refurbishment maintains an air of nostalgia balanced beautifully through an innovative contemporary lens. Featuring Italy’s Pier Luigi Nervi’s iconic concrete foyer ceiling, this modernist building by Australian design luminary Harry Seidler has welcomed critically acclaimed hits from the West-end to Broadway.

With two new luxurious VIP lounges, Theatre Royal creates a sense of occasion in Sydney’s dynamic arts scene. Guests can enjoy a pre-theatre drink at one of the intimate new bars, serving an array of international fine wines, chilled champagne and inventive cocktails.
